BOISE – The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Idaho Chapter has announced the 2009 National Philanthropy Day® - Idaho Awards for Philanthropy winners.

National Philanthropy Day (NPD) events across the country are produced each year by local chapters of AFP, and recognize the people and organizations active in philanthropy and fundraising.  AFP Idaho Chapter has recognized individuals’ and organizations’ accomplishments and leadership in philanthropy since 1996.

This year’s award winners will be honored at 7:30 am, Thursday November 12th at the Double R Ranch Club Room in the Stueckle Sky Club at Bronco Stadium in Boise.  Individual tickets are available to the public for $45 each, and the event includes breakfast.

The 2009 NPD Idaho Awards for Philanthropy:

Outstanding Philanthropists – Jerry and Muriel Caven
Jerry and Muriel Caven have given countless dollars nationally as well as internationally.  Their philanthropy ranges from Idaho to poverty-stricken communities in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Peru.  Their contributions to Boise State University Athletics total almost $2 million.

Outstanding Corporation I – Albertsons/SuperValu
At the heart of Albertsons, a SUPERVALU company’s charitable giving is the belief that being a good corporate citizen is an ongoing responsibility.  Last year, SUPERVALU gave approximately $2 million to non-profits and community organizations throughout the state of Idaho.

Outstanding Corporation II – Bank of the Cascades
In 2009, Bank of the Cascades created a nonprofit management seminar series, helping Idaho nonprofits fulfill their missions.  The bank also contributes generously financially, donating more than $170,000 to Idaho nonprofits each of the past two years.

Outstanding Media – Stoltz Marketing Group
Stoltz Marketing Group is a 12 year-old branding and interactive graphic design located in Boise.  They bring considerable experience to help nonprofit organizations such as Idaho Rivers United, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year – Angela Lindig
Starting with a dream 9 years ago, Angela has motivated hundreds of volunteers and donors to raise $300,000 in cash (and nearly $200,000 in in-kind support) to create the first universally accessible playground in Idaho: Adventure Island Playground, located in Meridian’s Settlers Park.

Outstanding Development Executive – Pam Parker
Pam Parker’s career in fundraising spans 23 years, in which she increased board giving, as well as instituted and directed annual and capital campaigns for the YMCA, the Nature Conservancy’s Idaho Chapter and Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area.

Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy – 2009 Magical Moments Team
The 2009 Magical Moments Team of students planned and presented the 2009 event benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho. The event connected guests with the “magical moments” of mentoring while raising $100,000 – literally, kids helping kids.

Outstanding Community Service - Teresa Poppen
Teresa Poppen is the adult mentor for the Magical Moments Team of high school students who produces an annual fundraiser for the mentoring programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho.

A jury of former honorees, philanthropists and community selected the awardees to be honored at the November 12th event, sponsored by The Collins Group.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) represents 29,000 fundraisers in more than 180 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education, and certification programs.
